Topic:                                     THE LIONS AND THE DOGS

As we have severally stated: ignorance is one terrible thing that keeps believers badly impoverished even in the face of great opportunities. The LORD decried this when He lamented, AMy people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hos. 4:6). Jesus Christ our Saviour did lament this also in the days of His earthly ministry (Lk. 19:41-44).

 

The need to awake to knowledge and victory cannot be over emphasized at this time of fierce opposition from the kingdom of darkness.

 

Being quite aware of this fact, the LORD brings us this message titled The Lions And The Dogs.  Under three sub-headings, we will survey the message (1) The Lions Described (2) The Dogs Described   (3) The Irony That Must Be Addressed.

 

The Lions Described (Gen. 49:8-11; Rev. 5:1-5)

Judah in the declaration of his father, Jacob (Israel) was branded a Lion (Gen. 49:1-2, 8-9). This prophetic utterance came to pass as declared. Judah barely stood alone as a kingdom against ten tribes of Israel. The ‘Lion’ in Judah came to light more clearly, when Jesus Christ, a descendant of Judah, was reputed as the Lion of that tribe of Judah, Who alone prevailed to open the seal that none  other could open (Rev. 5:1-5). Jesus Christ, therefore is the Lion. All those begotten of Him are offsprings of the Lion. Of necessity, the Lions also begets lions (Gal.4:1-7). All genuine believers are lions of some sort. The Spirit that possesses them is the Spirit of the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

 

The Dogs Described (Matt. 7:6; 15:28; Rev. 22:14-15)

‘Dogs’ in the bible are sometimes used figuratively for the Devil, his cohorts and men that align with him. All such as do wickedly who are led and ruled by the evil spirits are dogs. The holy things are not meant for them and the holy city is not for them. They lurk around, outside the holy place with evil intents. They are impostors that mimic the Lion, roaring like the Lion whereas they are dogs. They are experts in the art of camouflaging (as what they are not) in order to deceive (1Pt. 5:8; 2Cor. 11:13-15).

 

The Irony That Must Be Addressed (Ps. 22:14-16; Isa. 31:3-5; Prov. 28:1)

The Lion is an animal that is known for its fearlessness. Its presence in the forest sends the other animals far away. When it roars, fear grips other animals.

 

When an animal like the dog intimidates the lion, such that the lion is cowed and subdued, it is a terrible irony. There could possibly be only one explanation to this, which is that the lion has lost its identity (Eccl. 9:4).

This seems to be the situation, where Watchmen appear greatly intimidated and fear has virtually taken over the lives of many. The enemy’s evil onslaught has almost made the lions (the Watchmen) to close their mouths instead of roaring fiercely and offensively.

 

The challenge still remains, if the lion is still in his senses, let him roar, that the dogs may flee into hiding. Roar therefore oh! Watchmen roar, you are the offspring of the Lion; roar as never before. The Lord assures that if we resist the devil, he will flee. Let us therefore rise to roar, for we are offsprings of the Lion.
